I have a short paragraph from the book Finnøy farm history book that I
cannot decipher using my Norwegian dictionary. I was hoping that someone
could translate the following:

Det var skifte etter Ola 1757 09.07. Han etterlet seg lausøyre verdsett til
101 rdr. 3 ort 17 skill., og arven vart delt mellom enka og den umyndige
dottera. Formyndar for henne var mora under tilsyn av Rasmus Johanson
Reilstad, som hadde eigedom i Vestbø (sjå "Eigarar" ovanfor). I 1758 budde
Asgjerd på garden med folga saman med dottera.

This paragraph concerns the family of Ola Jakobson Vestbø and his wife,
Asgjerd. Thank you to anyone who can tell me what this paragraph says.

The probate after Ola is dated to July 9, 1757. He left goods (items) which
were valued to 101 rdr. (riksdaler), 3 ort 17 skill. (skilling~shilling),
and the inheritance was divided between his widow and his daughter, a minor.
Her mother was her appointed guardian under supervision of R.J. Reilstad,
who was the owner of a property (farm) in Vestbø (see "Owners" above). In
1758, Asgjerd lived on the farm ('med folga' ??) with her daughter.

In Norwegian "folga" is also called "kår", "føderåd", etc.
Is is the allowance or pension that a new (younger) holder had to
provide to the former (elder). It was usually specified in detail in the
contract of transferring the ownership (or holdership, if the holder
were not the owner) or in a separate contract attached to it.

In this case it seems that the daughter has married and that her husband
was the holder of the farm in 1758. At least, this would be the normal.
(As the only child of a newly deceased holder, she became very
attractive at the "market" for marriage. And furthermore, the farm
needed a man.) The statement that she was "umyndig" (minor), does not
tell much. Basically, whomen were "umyndig" at any age (widows to some
extent an exception). But Michael may know her age?

Torborg was born in 1740, so she would be 18 years of age in 1758. I
believe that her husband did take over the farm.
