I have distant relatives which has Karen Johanna Johnsen as part of their ancestry. Her baptism is #5 on this page. She is born Uogte which includes a lot of information but I don't know much Norwegian and can't decipher the print. Also which church?
Any assistance with translating this record would be appreciated.
If there is any one who knows of this family and has information they wish to share, I would appreciate it. Karen Johanna was confirmed in 1854 and the residence is said to be Hellespl.

Re: Baptism record in Jan 1840
I am not an expert on decipher parish books. And also I can`t see that I recognice those people in my family file. (Yet)
But I can look in The Stjørdal bygdebok about Prestmoen and see what I can find.
There are not mentioned any church in the link, but it can not be another than the main church in Stjørdal, which are Værnes. Prestmoen, where I live, are only 2-3 km (1,5 to 2 miles) from this church. Almost all the whitness on this baptism are called Prestmoen.
Hellesplass are a place in Lånke, on the south side of the river. And there are Lånke church placed almost right over the river for Værnes church.

Thank you for your time and efforts. I would never have decoded "Prestmoen" from the names/gardsnavn.

A rough translation of the the parish border information at Arkivverket:
Link: http://www.arkivverket.no/arkivverket/k ... restordjal
"... There were four churches left in Stjørdal parish, the main church Værnes, and the annex churches Skatval, Hegra and Leksdal (Lånke)... In 1849 Stjørdal parish was split up, and Nedre Stjørdal (Lower Stjørdal) parish consisted of Værnes (Stjørdal) and annexes Lånke and Skatval."
So based on this, there is a good chance that she was christened in Værnes church, which was the main church for the parish.
Looking at the confirmation, it also took place in the same church.
#51 here: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-276
The title for the confirmation is two pages earlier and reads:
"Confirmerede i Værnæs Kirke aar 1854" and "1854, 1ste Octobr"
From the christening entry, here is what I can read:
I created a new post at the appropriate forum to get help transcribing this:

Good luck!

Re: Baptism record in Jan 1840
In addition to the already translated information, I can read that John Thoresen mybe are from Røemo (Rømo, Hegra. But I am not quite sure)
And one of the witness, Marthe Bersvendsdtr, lives at Nodeng (Noteng, very early, and also Nothæng was also used), a farm in Prestmoen.
Witness Andrea Andersdtr. lives on Eidum, a place on the other (south) side of the river.

Can this girl be the right Karen in Ft. 1865 in Nedre Stjørdal, Hellesleiret:

Can the "logerende" Marith Lassesdatter on this farm be Karen`s mother?

Can this be the nr. 1 "Leiermaal" in 1828, Giertru Johansdatter nr. 228:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-107
If her mother are the right "your" Marit Larsdatter, she comes from another Prestmoen farm here: Sørmoe.

Re: Baptism record in Jan 1840
I believe that this is the right Karen Johanna Johnsdatter in 1865. She was married to Johannes Johnsen. I can't seem to find his baptism but then I couldn't find Karen's either, so I will keep on looking. Maybe he isn't from Nedre Stjørdalen?
Is there any information on the Helles farm? Hellesplads (Karen's confirmation)? Hellesleiret in 1865 census?
The son Mikal (Mekal) is one that moved to America in Apr 1882. His son married a Vinge so that is the connection...
Thank you for taking the time to look for information.
David Vinge
P.S. I'm not sure how the next post about Giertru relates but I'm a bit slow today. Too much cold weather lately. -20 to -25 daily.

Re: Baptism record in Jan 1840
Maybe I was to fast with my last posting, it can be Sørkil instead for Sørmoe. Sørkil is a farm in Hegra. 2 of the witnesses are named Ingstadgjerdet (Hegra) and Sørkil (Hegra)

Re: Baptism record in Jan 1840
Hi David
A have much information about John Thoresen, he happens to be my gg-grandfather.
John Thoresen Grue was born 1813 in Os, just south of Røros. He came to Stjørdal in 1837 and left about 1840. He later married in Røros and got 8 children. In 1881, at the age of 67, he emigrated to Dalton, Otter Tail Co., MN with most of his family. Descendants there use the surname Grue.
I would very much like to exchange information with you.
