My great grandmother Martha Marie Jorgensdatter was born in 1818 on Melandsøe in Hitra. I would like to find out who her parents were, and any siblings. She married Peder Olsen Berg Vik, his father "Svorkmo".

In the LDS Vital Records Index, there is a Marta Maria Jørgensdatter, born 4 Oct 1818 and christened 8 Nov 1818 in Hitra. Her parents were listed as Jørgen Isaksen and Andria Andersdatter. The VRI records go only from 1817-1842, but parents of the same name had a daughters named Maren Anna 2 Aug 1822 (chr. 9 Sep 1822) and Mathea 31 Dec 1832 (chr. 17 Feb 1833). For Maren Anna, the parents' names are spelled Jørgen Isachsen and Andria Andersdatter and for Mathea, it was Jørgen Isaacsen and Andrea Andersdatter. Spelling variations were the rule, not the exception. I cannot find a marriage record for them, so it may have been elsewhere or before the window of available records.

In the 1801 census for "Milland" (Meland) farm in "Hittern" (Hitra), there was a Jørgen Isachsen, 40, who was in his first marriage with a Margrethe Mortensdatter, 49. They are shown with children named Isach, 6; Daaret, 12; and Marta, 9. There's a good possibility this is Marta Maria's father, though that would make him about 71 when Mathea was born.

There were 8 women and girls named Andrea Andersdatter in Hitra in 1801, four of them young enough to be bearing children in 1832. You will have to go to the microfilmed church records to see which one it was that Jørgen married.

Svorkmo is a farm in Orkland, Orkdal (southwest of Trondheim).

Martha and Peder are shown married on Lillevik farm in Veøy, Møre og Romsdal county in 1865. It shows him born in "Ørkdals" parish. They are both shown as being 47 on their *next* birthday at the time of the census. There are no children of their own shown, but a foster son named Anton Andersen, 4 on his next birthday and born in Veøy, was living with them. They had 3 cattle and 8 sheep. Here is the listing:

Hello

Jorgen Isachsen was born on the farm Strom (Hitra) in 1758. He moved to Meland. He died 89 years old in Melandsoe. His death date is Jan. 2, 1845 and he was buried Jan. 11, in Dolm Church.

Jorgen would be 60 years old when Martha Marie was born.
