Ingebret Olson, f. 11.3.1832? i Heddal

Notodden som begrep oppstod først i ca 1900. Heddal eller Hitterdal er betegnelsen på dette området før denne tid. I tillegg innholder Notodden bygda Gransherad.

I have additional information about this Ingebrit Oleson, but would still like to find:

1. a confirmed record of his birth. (I have not been able to find a baptismal entry for him in the microfilmed parish records for Hitterdal.)
2. positive identification of his parents and siblings.
3. information about his ancestors.

Here's what I have so far:

Ingebrit (or Engebret) Olesen, born ca. 1832, probably in Hitterdal.
His father's name was Ole Engebretsen.
His mother's name was probably Ragnild.
He had at least one brother, Syver, born in 1835, died in 1916 in Nore, Buskerud.

The online 1865 census for Hitterdal lists an Ole Ingebretsen, age 65, married to a Ragnild Sigurdsdatter, age 60, with an unmarried daughter Guro, age 16, living on the Kaasa farm.

These may be Ingebrit's parents and sister, but the connection is not certain.

A bygdebok from Nore-Uvdal in Buskerud, where Ingebrit lived just before he emigrated to America, says he was from Simoneseiet, Hitterdal.

Also it identifies his brother, who also came to Nore, as "Syver Olsen Simones fraa Hitterdal."

Ingebrit was married in 1856 in Nore to Gunnile Tostensdatter. Her parents were Tosten Toresen and Aslaug Gunulfsdatter.
They had a son Ole, born in 1857 in Nore and probably died in infancy.
They had a son Ole, born in 1858 in Nore, who became my great-grandfather.
They had a daughter, Ragnild, born in 1860 in Nore, who died in transit to America.

The family emigrated to America in 1861. They settled first in Clayton County, Iowa. In 1865, they moved to Bristol Township, Worth County, Iowa, and eventually took the surname Kaasa.

They had three more children in America:
Tosten, born 1862.
Ingebrit, born 1863.
Ragnild, born 1864.

Gunnile died in 1867. Ingebrit married Caroline Knutson Kravig in 1868, and they had 11 more children.

Ingebrit died in 1920.
