Faroese Genealogy

Hello,

I had a suggestion to post here.

My grandmother is from the Faroe Islands, and Im trying to fill in bits
of story. One of the things I found was this newspaper page:

http://www.blargle.co.uk/fp1.jpg
http://www.blargle.co.uk/fp2.jpg

Can anyone help me in providing a translation?

Also, I've had a copy of a Reinert family tree etc to help me flesh out
my family tree. Im a bit skeptical of the links back to Harald Blataand
and Edward 1st King of England, but Im trying to tidy it all up and am
rather stuck over all of the various locations.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just spelling mistakes, ie the
difference between Aaborg and Aalborg, or Høyvik, and Høyvig, but theres
things like:

Innistovu, Vestmanna, Faroe Islands
Husegaard
Innistovu In Kaldbak
Kollafjørður, Kjelnæs
Uppistovu, Miðgerði, Kollafirði
Uppi I Stovu, Á Ryggi, Miðvágur
Sandur, Uttan Å
Miðvágur, Uppi I Stovu
Midvåg, Up In Stovu
Uppistovu, Miðgerði
Sumbø Sogn
Nes Sogn
Klaksvik Sogn
I Sjogv
Eiði Sogn
Við Sjógv, Strendur

What are all these "Uppi I Stovu" and "Innistovu", how come there are so
many "Stovus" what does it mean? What's a Sogn? What's a "Geil"? What's
a Sjogv and why are those all over the place too?

Then Im trying to work out what's the correct way round for:

Kollafirði, Miðgerði
Miðgerði, Kollafirði

and so is it: Kollafjørður or Kollafirði??

any help would be appreciated. I've had a look through various websites
eg http://faroeislands.dk/pages/KollafjordurIndex.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_to ... oe_Islands and
http://fallingrain.com/world/FO/a/K/ but Im having difficulty
deciphering it all, not least because of all those Sogn Sjogv and
Stovus, but then I can't find what Kollafirði or Miðgerði actually are.
I can guess, but I don't want to mess things up.

Thanks
Simon

Cheers
Simon

Too mutch for me, but if you need part of it translated, i can do it.

Also, I've had a copy of a Reinert family tree

From who you get the copy?

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just spelling mistakes, ie the difference
between Aaborg and Aalborg, or Høyvik, and Høyvig, but theres things like:

In the past danish was the written language in the Faroes, this days we have
names in Faroes language, Høyvik is Hoyvík.

Innistovu, Vestmanna, Faroe Islands

Manny houses and farming houses have names like Innistovu, Uppi í Stovu.

Sogn is a parish.

The faroes name for a sogn is Sókn.

There are few ways to sat the names of towns here. Kollafjørður is a town. I
have been in Kollafirði visitting my what ever...

You have a mix in the danish way to spell places, and faroes, you have to
deside what to use, then i can help you.

Husegaard
Innistovu In Kaldbak
Kollafjørður, Kjelnæs
Uppistovu, Miðgerði, Kollafirði
Uppi I Stovu, Á Ryggi, Miðvágur
Sandur, Uttan Å
Miðvágur, Uppi I Stovu
Midvåg, Up In Stovu
Uppistovu, Miðgerði

Miðgerði is a part of Kollafirði, as Manhattan is a part of New York.

Blíðar heilsur Göran.
