Looking for Danish ancestors from Hellum, Aalborg

Legg inn av Gnarlodious » 9. februar 2006 kl. 16.58

Hello.
I am looking for my Danish ancestors, L. C. Peterson of Hellum, Aalborg,
Denmark. The birthdate I have is 17 Mar 1820 at Ulsted, Aalborg. He died
1870 in Denmark then his wife remarried a man named Nelsdaughter and the
family immigrated to the US about 1872.

His wife, my great great grandmother, was Elsa Marie unknown, born 09 Feb
1826 at Hellum. By her first husband, Peterson, she had these children, all
born in Denmark (dates are anecdotal):

Sena Peterson (c1853-1927), married Nels C. Kristensen in Denmark probably
1871 (born 04 Jan 1846 in Hellum)
Louis C. Peterson (01 Apr 1857 at Hellum)
Nels P. Peterson (24 Oct 1862 at Hellum)
Andrus Peterson (Sep 1866 at Hellum, possibly died young or may not have
even existed)
Christian Peterson (abt 1866)

The family settled in Central Minnesota where a number of others emigrated
from the same neighborhood in Denmark.
My great-aunt went to Denmark in 1972 looking for her ancestors but reported
that the church holding the records had burned and she was empty handed. She
said she visited a church at Klokkerholm that reportedly has a graveyard
holding some of her husband's ancestors and was near Hellum, so if Hellum is
misspelled it is near Klokkerholm.

Any advice on locating these people will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
very much.

I found Elsie Neilsdaughter, age 54 in 1880 living in Minnesota,
Becker County, Richwood as a farmer (no husband listed).
Also in the family is ...
Louis C. Peterson, age 24.
Neils Peterson, age 18 and
Andrew C. Peterson, age 14.
No listing for Christian.

It looks like the family arrived in 1872 if the information for
Andrew and Neils is correct in 1900. I found Nels (Neils)
living in Becker, Minnesota as single, arriving in 1872 and a
farmer, born October 1862. Will follow up with more if found.

In 1900 Nels Christenson (Kristensen) was living in Richwood, MN
with his wife Lena, age 48, born March 1852. with their daughter
Annie, born September, 1878, age 21, born in Minnesota.
Andrew C. Peterson is living with them as a boarder. Both
Nels and Lena arrived in 1872. Note: it is not unusual to have
names spelled differently, i.e., Sena as Lena, etc. Sometimes it is
due to what the enumerator thinks is correct. Lena indicates she
has two living children. Only their daughter Annie is listed. Will
check the 1880 census.

Entity Photon713 spoke thus:

In 1930 Andrew C. Peterson has married Sophie Roohr, her second marriage.
Woah! Where are you getting this information? What a scandal. My great-uncle

Andy died 25 Apr 1938 childless (as far as we know) in San Francisco when he
was run over by a car. He spent several years carousing with a woman named
Rosie Maggi, who was the sister of Eugene Maggi, the husband of Myrtle
Peterson. We had never heard of him being married before Rosie, and in 1930
he would have been 18.

This is all very interesting. As far as the Danish origins of the family, I
have found them in the Danish Archives.

Thanks for all your work!

Evening, Rachel...you mentioned in 1930 he would be "18". The Andrew
C. Peterson I am referring to was 63 in 1930. He married Sophie when
he was 56. He was a bachelor for a long time before he married. Don't
have any information about San Francisco. I think you are referring to
Andrew C. Peterson who was the son of Nels and Dena not the brother
of Louis and Neils. There were two Andrew C. Peterson's.

Yes, thank you. We didn't know the last name of the woman he married. I just
yesterday learned the "C" in his name was for Christiansen, and he was born
in Denmark with the rest of them.
