pict621.jpg [191x200] Elleflot (1954)
Overtok gården Elleflot i Skjold. Han er den første kjente bonden på
denne gården. Han bodde der i 1597. Tveit-slekten eide jord i Elleflot
Austrheimbygda
geiter. Man regner med at gården da hadde ca 7 mål med åker. I 1723
Men

Took over the farm Elleflot at Skjold. He is the first known farmer
on this farm. He lived there in 1597. The Tveit family owned land in
Elleflot from early times. It is one of the innermost farms in Skjold,
at the border with Vats. The farm is old, probably from around 1000 AD.
A tale says that after the Black Plague a man from Sandeid went up on
mount Blikra. He saw smoke from somewhere west of lake Vats. He followed
the smoke and found a girl, who was the only survivor after the plague.
The two stayed together, and the farm was known as Elleflot ("Fire-
flat" - the flat piece of land where the fire had been built by the
girl). The tale also claims that the two of them became the predecessors
of almost all the people in the Austrheim area.
Elleflot was not a large farm. It was smaller than the main farms in
the Austrheim area - although biger than e.g Rossabø and Bjerga farm.
In the mid-1600s the farm had no more than 4 heads of cattle, 6 sheep
and 2 goats. It is estimated that the farm at that time had about 7
"mål" (a measure for acreage) of fields. In 1723 Elleflot was mentioned
as "hard to manage".
After Torgils the farm was taken over by a man named Hallstein. Then
by Mikkel Torgerson from Sjurseikje farm in Vats (in 1605). But around
1611 Torgils' granddaughter (the daughter of his son Knut)had taken
over the farm with her husband Roald Sjurson. We don't know *her* name,
but when Roald died in 1634 it was "the widow" who farmed on for four
more years. She was mentioned as "destitute/poor".
No idea if these people are at all related to you, or if they just
happened to live on the same farm as your grandfather Sigurd was born
on, probably sometime in the mid- to late-1800s.

Stein

Re: [GEN-NORDIC] Elleflot, Norway
Hi, Knut Torgilsen Stokka is my 9th g-grandfather. I have him married to
Orm Ånonsson Byre and they have a child:
Brynhild Knutsdtr Stokka born in Vikedal, Norway I think. (possibly she is
the widow mentioned who ran the farm?). Connie (Nernes - from the Nernes
farm near Bergen)
I have Knut's father listed as Torgils Aslaksson Elleflot - but I have no
mother for him, or siblings.

Re: [GEN-NORDIC] Elleflot, Norway
Connie:
suggest that you check your souces: "Orm" is a male name. In addition,
"Ånonsen" is a male patronymic ("son of Ånon"), and is here most likely
a real patronymic.

Geesh - I overlooked that - but it's obvious. I wonder how that person
slipped in as a 'grandmother' - LOL ! I will have to do some work now to
figure that one out! Thanks for pointing it out!
