which church books should I look in for 1836?
I am trying to find the church book birth record for a man with the last name of Dahl, who is said to have been born in Flekkefjord in 1838.
I could not find any churchbooks of this name for 1836, so I wonder which church books I should be looking at.
Takk - De kan skrive på norsk.

Flekkefjod utskilt fra Nes.
Far til nr 8 her heter Dahl til etternavn Nes, Ministerialbok nr. A 3 (1826-1841), Fødte og døpte 1838, side 105.

Hi John.
Can you give us some more to work with?
Name and year of birth?
Flekkefjord is given as origin by immigrants from a large area surrounding Flekkefjord.
Most of western part of Vest-Agder + Lund and Sokndal in Rogaland.
And "Dahl"is most likely a shortened version of a farm name ending with "dal" in Norwegian.
Best regards
Johannes

Re: which church books should I look in for 1836?
Takk, Johannes.
His American name is Andrew A. Dahl and is reported to have been born 1836 Aug 4 to Andrew Dahl and Ctanila Serina Anderson
He was in the US by 1861, when he joined the Wisconsin 15th Regiment for the US Civil War, but we don't have any other information on him.
Not much to go on, which is why I was looking for a way to narrow down which church books to look in.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Re: which church books should I look in for 1836?
Thanks, Linda. This is a great find!!!
From the birth record, should I interpret it to mean than Andreas was born at the Eeg farm, since this is the only farm name listed for the parents?
Takk,
John

They lived at Eeg farm at that time, so he was probably born there.
