Søker familie i Førde, Naustdal og omegn

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Paul Thompson, and my wife and I are planning a trip to Norway in early August. According to genealogical records, my great-grand parents were Henrik Rasmusson Rotenes, born on January 7, 1835 in or near Naustdal, and Elen Ludvigsdatter KIrketeig, born on or about December 6, 1839 and baptized in Førde on December 16. They married in Naustdal on June 24, 1860, and emigrated to the U.S. with their children in 1870.

We will be visiting the Sunnfjord vicinity as part of our trip and I am seeking any information you may have available that would help me locate specific sites (or living relatives) associated with my family.

The family lived on Enestøl at the time of the census in 1865

This site is called Einestølen today and has been converted into the municipal recycling plant, so I guess there will not be much left to see of the farm there

You will find Henrik’s birthplace, Roteneset, however, close by, by the fjord to the south.

Elen’s birthplace is called Kyrkjeteigen on the map, which is located across the fjord, further to the south towards Førde

At the time of the christening of their daughter Marie Sophie on Jan 6, 1870, they live on Birkeli (Byrkjelia) in Naustdal to the north of Einestølen. (see top row)
