William Burne / Mary Welbye (another one bites the dust)

Many hours of screaming and hair-pulling by fellow genealogists have
failed so-far to elicit much help in the way of continuing the descent
of Adelard Welbye of Woodhead in Great Casterton, co Rutland by his
wife Elizabeth White, granddaughter of Richard Cecil.

The names of the children of Adelard and Elizabeth, surviving to 1605,
may be identical to those listed in the nuncupative will of their
grandmother Agnes (Anne) Cecil of Woodhead, widow of Thomas White of
Wallingwells. Her nuncupative will was proved 13 Feb 1604/5

It has been known that one of these grandchildren, Mary Welbye was
married to someone called "William Burne of Manchester, Lancashire"
and that's it. No further details may be found in any sources I've
ever seen.

However! Today while looking for something completely different, I
found this

http://books.google.com/books?id=mBwsAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA93
"The Fellows of the Collegiate Church of Manchester", by Francis
Robert Raines. edited by Frank Renaud. 1891 Charles E Simms,
Manchester.
Part I, pg 93
'to marry "William Burne, Clerk, S.T.B., verbi Dei apud Manchester
Predicator and Mary Welbye of Latham, spinster, dated Oct 1
1608" (Marriage License Book, Cestr.), but what connected existed
between her and the Countess of Derby, who was a daughter of the 17th
Earl of Oxford and a granddaughter of Lord Burghley, I have not
discovered.'
END QUOTE

I can TELL you Mister Raines what connection existed.
Mary Welbye, daughter of
Adelard Welbye of Woodhead by his wife Elizabeth White, daughter of
Thomas White of Wallingwells by his wife Agnes Cecil

SISTER of
William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, who by his second wife Mildred
Cooke
were parents of
Anne Cecil who married Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford
parents of
Elizabeth de Vere, Countess of Derby

So there you go. And thank you.
No thank YOU. No thank you!....

Well isn't this just bizarre.

Trundling along, minding my own business, entering the details from
this new source, when they state that Sarah Burne married John Andrew
"of Little Lever Hall".

Which seems vaguely familiar....in fact it turns out for some odd
reason, that I have the baptisms already entered for that part of that
family, and that this John cannot be anyone other than that John
Andrew bap 17 Mar 1616 Saint Peter, Bolton le Moors, Lancs.

He was the son of Nicholas Andrew of Lancaster, by his wife Hetha
Lever.

Why do I already have this family in my database?
Anne Andrew his sister married William Pyncheon
William Andrew his brother married Elizabeth Bagshaw

We must have covered this part of the family already. It's a bit of a
surprise to make a connection to something I already *had* noting now
that Nicholas Andrew and Hetha Lever are Cecil 6's.

It's interesting when I read where William Burne, the clerk wrote to
Burghley before he ever married Burghley's cousin. I wonder if ...

Oh I see it now, this came from John Brandon adding notes to the Great
Migration series in Dec 2007. That's why I have the family.

So that's a new interesting tidbit that Nicholas Andrew's son John,
married a 4th-generation descendent of Richard Cecil.

If it would be of interest, I am pretty sure I have some further
details of these Andrews - the Andrew/Pyncheon marriage rings a bell;
there is probably a Visitation record for them.
