Fw: C.P. Addition: Death of Henry de Beaumont (died 1340), 1

As usual, child Richardson has stamped his little feet again and again
cross-posted.

I think he would not have said that CP gave a limited account, had he simply
used CP as it is supposed to be.

CP does not fail to mention that Henry Beaumont was Earl of Moray and
Buchan. Where should that be recorded?
Exactly under Moray and Buchan.

CP Volume4 IX page 171
Henry Beaumont, ord Beaumont,by writ of summons in 1309, and summoned to the
English Parliament as Earl of Buchan in 1334, was PRESUMABLY created Earl of
Moray by Edward Baliol, etc. for fuller particulars sub Beaumont.

For Earl of Buchan CP Volume II page 375.

With best wishes

Subject: C.P. Addition: Death of Henry de Beaumont (died 1340), 1st Lord
Beaumont, Earl of Buchan and Moray

Dear Newsgroup ~

The authoritative Complete Peerage, 2 (1912): 59-60 (sub Beaumont) has
a somewhat limited account of a rather important medieval figure,
namely Sir Henry de Beaumont, 1st Lord Beaumont, Earl of Buchan and
Moray. Among other lapses, it fails to note that Sir Henry de
Beaumont was briefly Earl of Moray, in addition to being Earl of
Buchan. For an example of Henry de Beaumont being styled Earl of
Buchan and Moray, see, for example, the published Register of William
Melton 1317-1340 1 (Canterbury & York Soc. 70) (1977): 97.

Regarding his date of death, the following brief information is
provided:

"He died 10 March 1339/40." END OF QUOTE.

No place of death or burial are provided. And, no documentation is
presented for this information.

In 1927 V.H. Galbraith published The Anonimalle Chronicle, 1333 to
1381. On page 15 of this published chronicle, it is recorded that Sir
Henry de Beaumont died 10 day of March at Loughborough,
Leicestershire, and was buried at Vaudey Abbey in Lincolnshire:

"Mesme cel an le x iour de Marce a Luthburgh morust mounsire Henri de
Bewemond et est enterre al abbeye de Valle Dei." END OF QUOTE.

Loughborough, Leicestershire was, of course, previously the residence
of the Despenser family, and, on their fall from grace, it was granted
in 1327 to Henry de Beaumont. Henry de Beaumont was near kin to both
King Edward II of England and his wife, Isabel of France, as well as
near related to the Castilian and French kings.

For interest's sake, the following is a list of the numerous 17th
Century New World immigrants that descend from Sir Henry de Beaumont
(died 1340), 1st Lord Beaumont, Earl of Buchan and Moray, and his
lovely wife, Alice Comyn.

Elizabeth Alsop, William Asfordby, Dorothy Beresford, William Bladen,
George & Nehemiah Blakiston, Charles Calvert, Rowland Ellis, William
Farrar, Elizabeth & John Harleston, Anne Humphrey, Nathaniel
Littleton, Thomas Lloyd, Anne, Elizabeth & John Mansfield, Elizabeth
Marshall, John Nelson, Philip & Thomas Nelson, Herbert Pelham, Edward
Raynsford, William Skepper, Diana & Grey Skipwith, Mary Johanna
Somerset, John Stockman, Samuel & William Torrey, John West, George
Yate.

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
