Hello Bill,

It's not known yet why your family took the name "Scarvie". But it must be the name of the place they have been living in Norway before emigrating (I guess)

The difficulty with these (farm)names is that this place where they did live could have been a small piece of ground with one or two houses on it and a name. Which name could have disappeared, when the houses did not exist anymore at that place. Even worse: if the name of the place did refer to a so called "huusmand place" (this was a little cottage with a name, leased at the farm with another name, owned by someone else), the so called huusmand-plass name disappeared, when the cottage did not exist anymore.

In your case I do not know about the (farm) name Scarvie.

Maybe you should ask Norway-List

In the mean time I could find your Aslak Olsen back.
