Scottish birth registry question

Legg inn av Glenlivet » 6. januar 2007 kl. 15.27

Does anyone have experience with searching birth registries on
scotlandspeople.gov.uk?
I found the birth record for my grandfather (illegitimate) which lists
the names and trades
of his birth parents, but not their ages at the time. Did the Scots
have individual birth
certificates, or am I faced with a huge haystack? (birth father had
fairly common name).

Also, I was always told that he was raised by his grandparents. Would
the 1891 Scottish
census (5 yrs. after GF's birth) have listed the relationship to head
of household that
specifically? Has anyone come across actual examples on this census
where the relation-
ship is listed as "grandson" (or granddaughter, or nephew, or whatever
the case may be) ?

Appreciate any words of wisdom!
Thanks,
Mark
