Free Genealogy Software Advice
I'm an old lady with a very young friend who wants to begin working on his
family genealogy. His monetary resources are quite limited and I want to
suggest some software he can download without paying. Any advice would be much
appreciated.

He might also be interested in the latest PAF, Version 5. He can read about
"how it works" at http://261.byu.edu/pafmain.html after download it per
Kurt's message. If he's not into genealogy databases, especially PAF, it
could be a different world for him. It's not hard, only "different."

For Mac I can recommend Reunion (http://www.leisterpro.com).
Gramps is a Gedcom-parser-program, but it is nice and very easy to translate
to other languages (thanks to OpenSource and Python).

Gene is a good Mac program - shareware.
I've been using it for years - cost to register it was $US 15. Almost
free !

I know. I probably did not read the posting in detail...
The download-version of Reunion is useless for real testing since you can
just have (I think) 35 names in the database, and you can not export a
Gedcom-file of your 35 names to see how the Gedcom-file from Reunion is
organised. Anyway, I bought a Reunion-CD and I am very satisfied!

....or go to the LDS homepage and click on the tab site for
order/download software and you can get PAF Version 5. It is very
simialr to FTM 2005, and it is absolutely FREE.....
